Directions to Tailgate Lot (will be
updated as gameday gets closer)
From the Balto/D.C. corridor, take I-95 South through Richmond and exit
onto I-85 South towards Durham, N.C., and Atlanta. Continue on I-85
South into North Carolina, and feel free to make obscene gestures to
the welcome signs as you cross state lines (provided your passengers
are of appropriate age). Stay on I-85 South and then merge onto I-40
West/I-85 South towards Greensboro and Winston-Salem. This road will
eventually split. Be sure to stay on I-40 West. Take exit 206 and
follow U.S. Route 421 North towards Kernersville and downtown
Winston-Salem. Take exit 5C and turn right onto Cherry St., which
briefly merges with Marshall St. before becoming University Pkwy.
Follow University Pkwy. to a right turn onto Deacon Blvd. You'll
immediately see a parking lot on your right, followed by the coliseum,
then more parking lots. Use this second group of lots as they are
slightly closer to the stadium. Cost is $8 per car. Address info if you
need your own directions: Deacon Blvd. and University Pkwy.,
Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
Raising of the Flags
TBA. Click here for a link to info about
tailgating policies at Wake.
Map of Tailgate Lot

Deacon Blvd. and University Pkwy. in Winston-Salem. To the east of this
intersection is Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and several
adjacent parking lots with entrances off Deacon Blvd. The Terrapin
Nation is welcome in these lots. The lots are public gameday parking
for $8 per car.
Previous Trips to Wake Forest
Team A-Game traveled to Wake in 2001. We parked for free in the
Lawrence Joel Coliseum lot, right across Deacon Blvd. from Groves
Stadium. Not too many tailgaters there, and no comments from Deacon
fans, so the atmosphere was rather bland. The stadium was maybe a
little over half-filled for the game, which the Turtles won, 27-20.
Winston-Salem has its highlights and lowlights. The biggest dagger may
be that it is a good hour or so west of the general Dook-UNC-N.C. State
area, but it is still well within driving distance from College Park.
This year, with the Deacons coming off the ACC championship, expect a
much more energized atmosphere. —PK
